Barcelona Coach Flick Stays Positive Despite Missed Opportunity
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick maintained an optimistic outlook following his team's 1-1 draw with Real Betis, despite missing a chance to extend their lead over Real Madrid to six points in La Liga.
After Madrid's surprising 2-1 defeat to Valencia earlier in the day, Barcelona could only manage a draw at home, increasing their advantage to just four points. Flick, who had to restrain an agitated Raphinha during the match, chose to focus on the positives.
"We have one more point, and there is one game less," Flick stated post-match. "I don't care what happens in Madrid. I care about Barça and we are only focused on ourselves."
The German coach praised his team's second-half performance but acknowledged their lack of finishing touch: "We gave everything and we couldn't do it. We have not been lucky in front of goal."
Barcelona's attention now shifts to their Champions League quarterfinal against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. Flick provided encouraging news about defender Inigo Martinez, confirming he should be available for the crucial European fixture.
The coach also explained his substitution decisions, noting that player management was a priority: "Pedri plays everything, like Balde and De Jong. We have to take care of all of them."
Since taking charge at Barcelona, Flick has emphasized building team cohesion and a positive atmosphere. "Everything we've created is exceptional. Not only the team but also the coaching staff. This is a family," he remarked.
With eight matches remaining in La Liga and the Champions League quarterfinals ahead, Barcelona remains in a strong position to compete on multiple fronts. Flick's pragmatic approach and focus on team unity could prove crucial as they enter this decisive phase of the season.
